Blackmagic Design has announced a new Blackmagic RAW video codec. The new format is designed to bring the malleability of shooting RAW with the more manageable sizes of compressed video files.
Traditionally, RAW video files are massive and use up a lot of computing power during post-processing. However, the new Blackmagic RAW codec moves part of this process back into the camera to provide hardware acceleration. This will reduce some of the workload from editing software when it comes to decoding.
