Lytro Announces World’s First Consumer Light Field Camera
By Joseph Tepper, October 20, 2011 @ 10:32 PM (EST)
Today, Lytro Inc. unveiled the world’s first consumer “light field camera” after much anticipation.
This new consumer camera actually records all rays of light in a scene, which allows for new capabilities; most notably the ability to change the focal point. The f/2 lens and 8x optical zoom creates “living pictures” that can be refocused endlessly (try it yourself!).

“Lytro cameras feature a light field sensor that collects the color, intensity, and the direction of every light ray flowing into the camera, capturing a scene in four dimensions,” explains the press release.
The Lytro camera is available both in a 8GB and 16GB variety, priced $399 and $499, respectively. Now all we need is a housing!
