British Columbia scientists have a new way to observe the ocean - the NUPTUNE Canada. The observatory features over 500 miles of looped electricity and fiber optic cable for data transfer.
NEPTUNE is an acronym for North-East Pacific Time-series Underwater Networked Experiments, and has 6 sites that reach the deep ocean.
The project also employs underwater photography and underwater live video streams using special underwater cameras.
