Kinefinity has announced an 8K cinema camera called the MAVO Edge. Equipped with a 44.7-megapixel 36mm x 24mm full-frame CMOS sensor, the camera can record 8K ProRes RAW at up to 75fps, 8K Open Gate (8192 x 5460 pixels) at up to 48fps, 6K Super 35 at up to 100fps, and 5K Super 35 at up to 120fps. The sensor features dual native ISO of 800/3200 and achieves 14 stops of dynamic range, according to Kinefinity.
The camera boasts two proprietary KineMAG Nano slots and the accompanying KineMAG Nano cards can record at up to 10Gb per second. Kinefinity will be offering KineMAG Nano enclosures to allow users to make use of third-party NVMe M.2 SSDs.
Housed in a carbon fiber case with an aluminum alloy frame, the camera uses Kinefinity’s KineMOUNT, which offers compatibility with PL, LPL, Active EF and passive Sony E-mount lenses via various adapters. The MAVO Edge can be powered via DC input or batteries.
Retailing for $12,000, the MAVO Edge is expected to be available in September 2020. The camera can be preordered through the Kinefinity website.
