
Judge Issues Injunction Barring Navy From Using Sonar Off California

U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper has issued a preliminary injunction that bars the US Navy from using high-powered sonar off the coast of Southern California saying that such exercises would cause irreversible damage to the ecological balance in the area.
The injunction was granted as a part of the lawsuit brought by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The suit said that use of high-frequency sonar scared marine mammals and also resulted in many deaths of whales. Beaked whales are thought to be especially sensitive to sonar...
