Japan Suspends Antarctic Whaling Operations
Due to safety concerns stemming from the actions of Sea Shepherd, an activist conservation group, the Japanese government has suspended fishing operations of it's Antarctic based whaling vessels. Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yukio Edano, speaking on behalf of the Japanese government stated in a press conference, "We find the Sea Shepherd’s harassment extremely regrettable and are asking all countries involved to take any action necessary against them."
EuroNews, and other news outlets, also reported that Australia is in the process of taking Japan to the International Court of Justice in an effort to permanently stop all whaling in the Antarctic Ocean.
