Important Underwater Photography And Video Icons Inducted Into Diving Hall Of Fame
This years list of inductees into the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame (ISDHF) includes Howard Rosenstein and the Williamson Brothers, important figures in the underwater photography and video world.
John Ernest and George Williamson were inducted into the new Early Pioneers category for creating the worlds earliest underwater movies. In 1912, using a modification of there father's underwater viewing sphere they able to take the worlds first underwater footage and made an underwater film production company. To learn more about the Williamson Brothers you can look at there biography on the ISDHF website. Also on the website is an awesome short video about the brother's work -- I highly recommend watching it if, like me, you did not know much about them.
Also inducted into the ISDHF this year was Howard Rosenstein. Howard is known to many divers as the "Ambassador of Red Sea diving," being one the first to establish a dive operation in the area, as well as the first live aboard operation in the
diving hot spot. However, us underwater photographers probably know him best from The Fantasea Line which he created in 2002. Fantasea has since become known as one of the most innovative underwater photography companies. For more about Howard you can see his biography on the ISDHF page and watch a short video biography as well.
Another notable inductee was the late Larry Smith who is a critter diving legend. It is impossible to dive popular critter sites like Lembeh Straits without hearing his name come up.
Congratulations to all the deserving recipients of this honor.
