Instagram has long been a tool for underwater photographers to gain exposure—but soon it could be easy to gain compensation, too. Instagram is rolling out a new feature that would allow users to link a credit card and buy things inside the app.
The obvious use – at least for parent company Facebook – is to help users easily purchase retail items that they see with shopping tags in Instagram posts. Things like apparel and electronics that are being promoted within a post could be purchased with one click.
But underwater photographers could also benefit: Imagine sharing one of your favorite images and getting lots of likes—but also lots of one-click orders. The technology is still a bit out, as only select Instagram users have access to the purchase feature at the moment. But the potential to use one of the world’s top photography promotion platform as a sales tool looms large in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future.
