In The Sea Of The Strait Of Messina

The Ionian and the Tyrrhenian seas mix their waters in correspondence with a very particular arm of sea, with unique characteristics in the whole Mediterranean sea: we are in the waters of the Strait of Messina, between Scylla and Charybds. Framed by sandy and pabbly beaches, high up above the sea, the geographical area of the channel stratches from the transversal Punta Paci u" Capo Peloro to that of Capo duArmi - Capo S.Andrea. The meeting between two seas so different produces some currents of tide of a particular turbulence, whirling motions that have become famous and imagined sometimes as monstrosities, stimulating the imagination of poets of other times. The current flows in two opposite and alternate directions (upwards and downwards), leaving some intermediate spaces at every inversion of the flow: the so-called slak water time. During this interval, of the duration varying according to the lunar phases, it is possible to dive at the discovery of the fantastic submerged heaven that the strait hides, but respecting scrupulous rules that only a local guide can point us out, in order to avoid disagreeable adventures...
