Ikelite Announces Housing For Canon Digital 1000-D Rebel XS dSLR

By Matt J. Weiss, August 31, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)

The Rebel has long been a popular series of digital cameras for photographers. The 1000-D Rebel is a new entry digital SLR. The camera is meant to have many of the same features that more expensive expensive cameras have, but in a more lightweight and cheaper body. Here is the Ikelite press release.

Introducing a full-featured and affordable underwater housing for the Canon 1000-D Rebel XS Digital SLR Camera. The compact, clear polycarbonate case provides visibility of its o-ring seals and corrosion-free performance up to a depth of 200ft (60m). Controls are provided for every camera function and kept water-tight with Ikelite pioneered Quad-Ring seal glands--proven to be the most reliable method of sealing controls.

A full range of dome and flat ports is available to accommodate most macro, wide-angle and zoom lenses. Port attachment is quick and easy with a simple locking system and clear view of the port o-ring seal. Lens port not included. A large zoom control knob can be comfortably reached without removing your hand from the handle.

The housing size and weight provide near-neutral buoyancy and superb handling underwater. The included tray with quick release handles allows convenient attachment and removal of Substrobe mounting arms at the touch of a button. The handle assembly itself detaches with the removal of just two screws for traveling. Addition of the #9571.3 1" (2.5 cm) ball at release handle provides an attachment point for most non-Ikelite arm systems.

The Ikelite Super-Eye magnifier comes standard and offers enhanced visibility of the camera's viewfinder while wearing a diving mask. The camera's live-view feature can also be used to its full potential with an unobstructed view through the back of the housing.

The housing also features the Ikelite TTL bulkhead--an industry favorite for the reliable connection of external substrobes. Right-angle positioning relieves strain on the optional sync cord even when the housing is laid on its back.

Built-in conversion circuitry for true Canon eTTL puts perfect exposure at your fingertips. The TTL mode provides four half f/stop increments over or under flash compensation to fine-tune exposure. Eight manual power settings in half-stop increments allow for complete creative control.

Exposure can be adjusted directly through the back of the housing using two pushbuttons. Settings are clearly indicated even at night by a series of LED lights.

The special TTL conversion circuitry operates perfectly with current model Ikelite DS digital SubStrobes. See strobe requirements by serial number.

Other strobes can be used, but they cannot provide TTL or be manually controlled through the housing back. Mount and sync cords for Nikonos strobes and special sync cords for Inon or Sea & Sea strobes are available.

This housing is available worldwide through any Ikelite Dealer.
