Honolulu Focuses on Acidification
By Matt J. Weiss, August 27, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
Acidification is among the top threat we have to oceans today. It has been estimated that the coral reefs can not withstand acidification and that there could be a huge collapse in the reef. That said, I was happy to hear that Honolulu was focusing its conservation efforts to controlling the problem.
The Honolulu Declaration provides the necessary steps that are needed to help control acidification and reduce CO2 emissions to prevent further problems. The steps are laid out clearly and are very tangible.
All of the steps are also backed by sound science and have been created from scientists opinions. Its great to see a place dedicated to a real problem, and avoiding some of the issues that may get more hype.
