Let There Be Light: Gates VL24 LED Underwater Video Light Now Shipping from Backscatter

By Matt J. Weiss, August 8, 2011 @ 08:25 PM (EST)

Video lights are all the rage right now.  The Sola series, a range of lights that are both small and powerful,  has revolutionized the way we expect our video lights to look and work.  There are now many small, self contained, very powerful video lights on the market that are relatively cheap. But what if you just dropped  close to $100,000 on a RED system and need something a little bigger and badder? Then take a look at the new Gates VL24 LED video light.

Gates has been perfecting their compact, yet powerful VL24 underwater LED light for the last few years, but it's finally ready to ship. They have asked many of the pros to test the lights, taking the feedback, going back to the drawing board, until they came up with what this 6000 lumen bad boy. The VL24 has 100 degree Effective beam angle, is available in tungsten and daylight color temperatures, and designed to be neutrally buoyant.  The light is currently available from Backscatter and starts $2,137.50.

You can see some sample footage of a prototype VL 24 taken by Backscatter with a Canon 5D Mark II and Pegasus Thurster Scooter. More on the scooters soon, but for now, enjoy the footage.
