
Galapagos Islands Added To Unesco List

Booming tourism in the Galapagos Islands and poaching in Senegal's Niokolo-Koba National Park have caused the United Nations World Heritage committee to add the sites to its list of those in danger, the committee said on Tuesday.
The inscription of the sites to its list of World Heritage in Danger was also done with a view toward mobilising support for conservation, the committee said in a statement.
Ecuador's Galapagos, 19 islands located about 1 000 kilometres from the South American continent, was the first site to be placed on the world heritage list in 1978...
