Full-Frame Mirrorless Market Share in Japan: Sony 67%, Canon 22%, Nikon 10%

BCN Ranking has published its latest full-frame mirrorless camera market data for the Japanese market, clearly showing how Sony’s almost total monopoly on the market has been eroded significantly by rivals Canon and Nikon following the release of the former’s EOS R and the latter’s Z6/Z7. The numbers? Sony (blue line): 67%, Canon (red): 22.1%, Nikon (green): 10.4%.

According to Photo Rumors, BCN Ranking collects sales data from approximately two-thirds of all Japanese retail stores, so the figures are likely representative. However, given that Nikon and Canon just started shipping their first full-frame mirrorless cameras, the figures might be somewhat inflated. It also remains to be seen what the market share breakdown in North America or Europe looks like.
