Four New Canon RF-Mount Mirrorless Lenses
By Joseph Tepper, September 6, 2018 @ 10:46 AM (EST)

In its announcement of the new EOS R, Canon made it very clear that this camera is just the first in a forthcoming line of mirrorless models. In that spirit, the company has also announced four new RF-mount lenses to get the line going. The lenses are as follows: Canon RF 28-70mm F2L USM, RF 50mm F1.2L USM, RF 24-105mm F4L IS USM and RF 35mm F1.8 Macro IS STM.

Let’s face it: These lenses aren’t super useful for underwater photography purposes. However, they are excellent topside options that cover most of the focal spectrum important for above water nature and portrait photography. The flagship 50mm is especially impressive with 15 elements in nine groups and offering a speedy minimum aperture of f/1.2. The RF 28-70mm lens will likely be a go-to for medium-distance wildlife subjects.

Good thing Canon also announced several EF-RF converters that will allow existing owners of Canon DSLR lenses to repurpose those lenses for mirrorless use. Read more about these topside-worthy lenses here.
