Reefscape in Raja Ampat, Indonesia
New footage from the collision of a British cruise ship and a coral reef earlier this month in Raja Ampat, Indonesia has been revealed. Scuba divers in the region have been monitoring the situation, which resulted in 1,600 square meters of destruction. The cruise ship, Caledonian Sky, was cruising through the region on a bird-watching trip.
Raja Ampat is known as the epicenter of biodiversity and its pristine reefs attract divers from around the world. Coral reefs serve as a major source of tourism for the region. Unfortunately, the devastation which took place at low tide could take up to 100 years to repair itself.
