First Pictures Of UnderSea Hunter Group's New Vessel-Argo
By Matt J. Weiss, April 11, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
We have just received exciting news from our friend
Steve Drogin of Undersea Hunter about their new vessel Argo. The
previous vessels from the group, Undersea Hunter and Sea Hunter have
operated in the Costa Rican pelagic Mecca Cocos Island for around 18
years. Their vessels have been home to many of the premiere movie
production companies and underwater photographers who use the boats to
explore the World Heritage Site. The new vessel, Argo, promises to
offer an amazing experience as well. Available for charter anywhere in
the world, Argo sleeps up to 12 guests in cabins that have access to
flat screen TVs along with SAT phone and TV service. The vessel
will accommodate all types of Scuba diving, including Nitrox and tech
diving. In addition to the 3- 26 foot skiffs available for
diving support, Argo will be equipped with the DeepSee sub. The DeepSee
has made over 600 dives and will be installed with a Schilling robotic
arm for gathering specimens. The sub can also have a digital camera or
a small 3 chip Hi-Def vice camera at the end of the arm to film or
photograph smaller spaces.
These first two photos show the original vessel, named William McGaw, a 105 foot research and dive support vessel in Southern California.
The following two photos shows the 132 foot Argo in its state today at the dock in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. The large blue crane at the back will be removed since it has been replaced with a brand new 18 ton white crane. The first charter will be on April 28th in Cocos island.
It appears that the scientific and underwater photography community have a new fantastic way to explore the oceans!
