A new report shows a less-than-encouraging trend in digital camera sales. The number of cameras shipped has dropped 23 percent compared to July of 2017.
Granted, the summer months are slower when it comes to camera sales, but the drop is quite significant. Perhaps this is due to a larger-than-usual slew of upcoming camera releases timed for Photokina 2018—shooters may be waiting to upgrade for newer models.
Interestingly, the smallest drop in camera sales is seen in interchangeable lens cameras (down 16 percent). Still total shipments declined from 1,942,192 to 1,496,604. It will be interesting to see if all of these big announcements from Nikon gives these numbers a bump in the coming months.
