DPG Turtle Visits The PADI Total Sub Event In The Cayman Islands

By Matt J. Weiss, August 11, 2010 @ 11:28 AM (EST)
So a lot of people have asked where the DPG turtle went after he retired from years of hard work as our logo.   Well, Mr. Turtle has decided that he was gonna take a nice little retirement tour of some the worlds best underwater photography destinations and document his trip along the way. His first stop was the Cayman Islands to check out the PADI Total Submersion event.

Total Submersion is comprised of a schedule of weeklong events, contests and seminars. Attendees are put into one of four color teams which partake in a number of activities. Mr. Turtle spent the weekend with the purple team, and, by all reports, had a great time diving, shooting and hanging out with the PADI crew.

Mr. Turtle clearly had a good time with Amphitrite, the mermaid at the Sunset House house reef

Two of Mr. Turtle's highlights were diving the famous Stingray City and finding out that the Cayman's had a turtle farm that helps to protect sea turtles.

When not enjoying the dive sites around the Caymans, Mr. Turtle got his BBQ on at the Monday night Seaside BBQ and had a few cocktails at the infamous My Bar of the Sunset House resort. He even got to catch up with old friends Andy Bausk of Olympus, Ty Sawyer of Sport Diver Magazine, and photographer Cathy Church.

Mr. Turtle grabs a drink or two. Hey, he's retired!

All in all, Mr. Turtle had a great time in the Caymans. We've received some post cards from the Bahamas and from Manado, as well. Check back soon to see where Mr. Turtle ends up next.
