DNA Studies Lead To Better Understanding Of Reefs
By Matt J. Weiss, October 1, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
Its often assumed these days that when there is a depletion of anything in the ocean it has to do with humans. However, genetic mapping of damselfish has found that they go through local extinctions that have nothing to do with human activities.
This could potentially give scientists valuable insights into the life cycles of coral reefs. The study was done in the Great Barrier Reef where researchers are hoping the information will help them better understand the stocks of certain species.
