Discovery Channel’s Shark and Manta Cam Goes Live

By Joseph Tepper, July 16, 2011 @ 12:56 PM (EST)

The Discovery Channel and the Georgia Aquarium have teamed up to give shark lovers a “fish-eye” live view of the largest indoor aquatic habitat, the Ocean Voyager.

This 24/7 live-view of whale sharks, leopard sharks, mantas and more is provided by Ocean Presence’s OPT-02HD AquariCam, which offers a 360 degree panoramic view. The camera went live on August 14, and will continue to stream through the end of Discovery’s “Shark Week,” July 31-August 6.

The 6 million gallon capacity of Ocean Voyager is the largest of any indoor aquarium, specifically designed to house the largest marine animal- the whale shark. The aquarium will also provide a real-time chat with experts working within the exhibit.

The Discovery Channel SharkCam can be viewed here, and more information on Ocean Presence’s PTX (pan-tilt-zoom) technology can be found on their website.
