Disabled Loggerhead Turtle Gets Prosthetic Fins

By Angela Messina, February 14, 2013 @ 11:11 AM (EST)
Source: BBC News

Yu is a resident of Suma Aqualife Park, an aquarium in Kobe, Japan. She’s a disabled loggerhead sea turtle, who, due to a possible shark attack, lost both of her fins. But now, with the help of modern technology, Yu has the chance to swim again.

Since joining Suma Aqualife Park in 2008, the staff has been trying to fit her with prosthetic fins. They went through 26 designs before finally finding ones that fit correctly. Outfitted with rubber fins that are attached to a soft vest and fit over the stumps where her actual fins used to be, Yu can now swim with relative ease.

See a video of Yu here.
