There are six sewage outfalls between Delray Beach and Key Largo. All together they pump about 300 million gallons of uA…aˆ?secondarily treated sewageuA‚A? into the ocean - EVERYDAY. The Delray Beach outfall - a mile east of the bars and restaurants on Atlantic Avenue - is the smallest. It spews only 13 million gallons of sewage, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Enough to fill 51 Olympic size swimming pools.
Its permit expired nearly two years ago and it has been belching sewage into the ocean without a permit since then. Floridaus Dept. of Environmental Protection has delayed issuing the permit while reviewing studies that prove sewage isnut good for coral reefs...
