DEMA 2007: Olympus

By Jason Heller, November 6, 2007 @ 02:00 AM (EST)

We unfortunately never made it to the Olympus booth. However, we just recently covered all of Olympus’s developments during meetings at the PDN Photo Plus Expo in NYC a few weeks back.

Olympus sources had confirmed then that they had plans for a metal housing for the new E-3 DSLR in the midst. During DEMA this became even more evident with the emergence of a Nexus E-3 housing, and rumors of a partnership between Nexus and Olympus.

Olympus has been the only camera manufacturer putting effort into the underwater SLR world. Between housings, ports and now even a stand alone strobe, I’d say that Olympus really wants to establish a foothold in the underwater world, and is doing a pretty good job so far. Even partnering with a major housing brand like Nexus is a bold move in the right direction. Although after the PhotoPlus Expo in NY and some cryptic discussions with Nikon, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a similar move from them at some point in the not too distant future.
