When you’re hot, you’re hot. And the D850 is hot.
Nearly six months after being officially unveiled, the D850 is still largely out of stock in the U.S. Even if you have done all the research on why to buy one of 2017’s top DSLRs and have scrimped and saved—it’s no good. You probably won’t be able to get a D850 immediately.
Instead, interested owners are forced to pre-order from various retailers. Some stores are just now shipping pre-orders taken way back in November. It seems that the only way to get a D850 is to “know a guy.” For us, that’s Backscatter. And we have a detailed review in the works.
The reason behind the supply shortage is unclear. But it’s likely a combination of high demand and Nikon production delays that have occurred in recent years. DC.Watch is reporting that the next shipment of D850s is coming this month and the shortage will be resolved in early 2018.
