Cyclops Shark Found!

By Joseph Tepper, October 17, 2011 @ 07:00 AM (EST)

Divers who say they aren’t afraid of sharks might want to reconsider that statement. National Geographic has published photos of a rare one-eyed shark found off the coast of Mexico.

The 22-inch-long shark fetus, which suffers from a genetic disease called cyclopia, was discovered when a fisherman legally caught and cut open the stomach of a Dusky Shark earlier this year.

It’s one of those things you have to see to believe- so go check it out on National Geographic’s website!

It might seem like a bizarre tale born of the high seas, but fisherman Enrique Lucero León stared the unknown right in the eye - its single, solitary eye. The Mexican fisherman discovered a Cyclops shark within the tummy of an expectant dusky shark he captured off Cerralvo Island in the Gulf of California, reports National Geographic.
