Crown-Of-Thorns Starfish' Destroying Kuwait Coral Reef

By Matt J. Weiss, August 7, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
The diving team in the Kuwait Environment Protection Society (KEPS) has recently discovered a kind of starfish that preys on coral reef. In a statement on Wednesday, the diving team said that a conclusive joint-study with Kuwait University it carried out on Kuwaiti marine life, showed that large numbers of the starfish were virtually covering all coral reef surrounding the Kuwaiti island of Om Al-Maradim, causing the reef’s destruction. The thorn-like spiny creature has also been found in areas surrounding Garoh island, to which specimens were taken for further study.
