For the past four years, Eilat, Israel has been host to a growing shootout and international photo competition. Now in its fifth year, the Epson Red Sea World Of Underwater Images is hosting several country-level contests in order to select one lucky underwater photographer from the US, UK, Australia, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, Israel, Spain and The Netherlands, for an all expenses paid trip to attend the event in the Red Sea November 9-14, 2009.
Last year we sent Keri Wilk to Eilat to cover the competition. Incidentally he also entered the competition and took second place. You can see the coverage here, it's a blast of an event.
DivePhotoGuide has partnered with the competition to help promote and select the "US Photographer of the Year". The winning photographer will have flights, accommodation and diving costs covered to compete at the Epson Red Sea 2009 shoot-out in Eilat.
Between the months of May and August, all US based amateur or professional underwater photographers are asked to submit a series of three digital photos. The deadline for submitting photos is August 30, 2009.
Online voting will start on September 1st and will continue until September 30th.
The winner will be chosen both by online voters and by a panel of 5 judges based on the the best overall portfolio of three images rather than the best image.
The winner will be announced on October 5th, 2009.
The 5th Annual Epson Red Sea Competition will be held November 9-14, 2009. Underwater photographers may submit images in several categories, such as Underwater Humour, Ecology & Nature, Wrecks, and Video Clips. There is also a special category for beginners.
Good luck!
