Commericial Ships Responsible For Manatee Deaths
By Matt J. Weiss, January 10, 2009 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
I just read an article that boats were responsible for more manatee deaths than ever before in Duval County, Florida . Additionally there are signs that commercial shipping may be of the problem. Manatee deaths are usually attributed to small personally owned motor boats, but researches found this may not be the only cause after autopsy were performed. This has been a problem for such a long time, its a really shame we can't figure it out. I understand the problem is complicated, but how many times do we have to read stories of manatees getting killed by boats or see images of manatees with motor marks on their flukes.
