Flourescing coral bleaching

"Chasing Coral", a new documentary about the recent coral bleaching phenomenon is now available on Netflix. Coral—a living, breathing animal, which by some estimates provides us with every second breath we take—is highly susceptible to rising sea temperatures. In order to bring awareness to the catastrophic events taking place under the waves, scientists, underwater photographers, and divers utilized time lapse photography in order to document the coral passing through different bleaching phases. By doing so the crew was able to bring the deteriorating health of coral reefs to the public.

The "Chasing Coral" crew teamed up with the director of "Chasing Ice", Jeff Orlowski, to create the film. Both films vividly document the effects of climate change and it was a natural fit for the director as "Chasing Ice" focused on similar issues surrounding climate changes imapct on sea ice. While the film was not intended to turn into a series the Director felt there were many parallels between the two stories that needed to be told.
