Time out from purely underwater photography talk. Canon has announced two new 70–200mm lenses that—while they won’t fit in your housing—are ideal for topside wildlife photography.
The first lens is the 70–200mm f/2.8L is aimed at professional photographers due to its maximum aperture and “lens speed.” The focal length range makes it a true workhorse—suitable for portraits at 70mm or capturing distant wildlife at 200mm. The new Air Sphere Coating suppresses reflections, flare, and ghosting.
With a maximum aperture of only f/4, the new 70–200mm f/4L IS II targets the amateur and prosumer market. The lens features significant improvement to image stabilization to five shutter speed stops of correction, which is useful when shooting at long distance.
The 70–200mm f/2.8L will be available in July 2018 with a price tag of $2,099. The 70–200mm f/4L IS II will begin shipping in late June 2018 for $1,299.
