Canon has announced a next-generation addition to its Cinema EOS System—the EOS C500 Mark II—and with seven years having passed since the Mark I, there’s much to talk about.

Powered by the company’s new Digic DV7 processor, the C500 Mark II is built around the same 5.9K full-frame 17:9 sensor found in the high-end C700, offering more than 15 stops of dynamic range, according to Canon. The camera can shoot up to 5.9K/60p and 4K/60p as well as cropped 2K resolution at 120p.

Other features include Dual Pixel autofocus (with AF points covering around 80% of the sensor’s image area), five-axis electronic image stabilization, user-changeable lens mounts (with EF, PL and Cine EF options), built-in motorized ND filters, dual CFExpress card slots, a 4.3-inch touchscreen, and a removable 1.77-megapixel OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF).

Alongside the new cinema camera, Canon has announced a beast of a reference monitor, the DP-V3120, with the same 17:9 aspect ratio as the C500 Mark II. Capable of resolutions up to 4096 x 2160 pixels in 10-bit color, the 31-inch LCD panel boasts 2000-nit HDR output and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and features inputs for both 4K and 8K workflows.

Available in December 2019, the EOS C500 Mark II is estimated to retail for $16,000, while the DP-V3120 monitor will set you back an impressive $39,000.
