Canon in Troubled Waters
By Joseph Tepper, February 1, 2012 @ 09:00 AM (EST)
Canon enthusiasts may have been over the moon with the release of the G1X and soon-to-be EOS 1DX, but these announcements haven’t been enough to off put the company’s slumping compact camera sales. The culprit? Hard to say, but certainly the tsunami in Japan and the flooding in Thaliand had do it with. All digital camera sales are down for Canon, which could be from increased competition (both in the compact category, and even from cell phones), but also from Europes poor economy.
The effect of the company’s slump in camera sales remain to be seen, but did not stop the early departure of CEO Tsuneji Uchida, who will resign in March.
