Physical photo prints have largely gone the way of the dodo since the switch to digital imagery. However, a new product from Canon aims to bring back prints into our lives: IVY is a compact, wireless photo printer that’s small enough to take on the go.
At just 5.6 oz (160g) this portable printer is small and light enough to carry in your camera bag. The device is powered by a rechargeable battery and connects with devices via a Bluetooth connection—so no wires are needed.
The IVY connects to the Canon Mini Print app (iOS or Android), which can apply filters, frames, stickers and even some basic photo edits. The printer runs on “ZINK Zero Ink” technology, so no cartridges are used in creating the 2x3-inch photo print stickers. Want the image bigger? You can automatically create and print a mosaic of up to nine images. Each print comes out in 50 seconds and is smudge-proof.
Sure, it’s neat for tangible selfies. But just think about the impression you could leave by printing out one of your underwater photos on the spot. It might be enough to catch the eye of the DPG editorial staff looking for new Photographers of the Week. The Canon IVY Mini Photo Printer is now available with a retail price of $130 (photo paper extra).
