Blue Crab Fishery In Chesapeake Bay Decleared A Disaster

By Matt J. Weiss, September 29, 2008 @ 02:00 AM (EST)
Carlos M. Gutierrez, U.S. Commerce Secretary, announced that a decline in the harvesting of blue crabs is a commercial fishery failure -- not much of a surprise for anyone that has learned about the fishery or environmental conditions of the bay.

NOAA analyzed the situation and both the economic and biological components and decided that it was a commercially fishery failure leading for the commerce department to officially declare it a disaster.

This means that the fishery is eligible for the federal assistance to help rebuild the crab population and the fishery.

Want to save the Bay? Think ZERO. ZERO is the amount of pollutants the Bay can handle. ZERO is the number of failed septic systems it can take. ZERO is the level of raw sewage that can be introduced. ZERO runoff from farm and surface pollutants. ZERO dumping from vessels. ZERO dollars if every citizen would stand up and obey the law. If one citizen allows pollutant runoff to occur, than it's ok for millions to allow it. This is why the Bay is dead. Wake up.
