Blog: Photokina 2012 Round-Up
By Joseph Tepper, September 18, 2012 @ 03:44 PM (EST)

That wonderful time of the year is upon us—Photokina.

For photo and video enthusiasts, the week leading up to Photokina – the world’s top photography expo – makes us feel like kids in a candy store. New cameras, new lenses, new products left and right. And there have been some BIG announcements this year: from Canon and Nikon’s version of the world’s smallest full-frame DSLR, to the world’s first compact full-frame camera, and an entire new lineup of Olympus PENs.

Over the next few days, thousands of spectators will flood into Photokina to get their hands on these new cameras. Instead of fighting the crowd for a first look, we have all the major announcements for you right here!

Go ahead…get your gear lust on!

Nikon D600: The world’s most affordable full-frame camera and (briefly) the most compact

Canon 6D: New full-frame camera raises the bar with smaller body and $2100 pricepoint

Powershot S110: Gentle upgrade to S100 features touch screen (underwater housing “no-no”

Powershot G15: Long-awaited upgrade in the “G” series brings moderate improvement in autofocus and lens

DSC-RX1: Compact and full-frame. Need we say more?

Sony A99: Could we see housing support for Sony’s flagship DSLR? Maybe not for a while, but the specifications are impressive.

NEX-6: First the NEX-5, then 5N, then 5R, and now the NEX-6. The front control dial is the big news on this release for NEX fans. That’s until the next NEX…

PEN E-PL5 and E-PM2: Two new PENs are hard to tell apart other than size, but 60mm macro lens is sure to improve mirrorless macro photography

GH3: It’s back and bigger than before. The almost SLR size and feel of the new GH3 narrows the gap between DSLR and compacts even more.
