Australians Warn Warming Risk is Real

In its first official report, the Australia Climate Commission (ACC) has warned that the world’s sea levels could rise more than three feet before the end of the century.

Additionally, the report addresses the ongoing issue of media criticism of climate science. It says, that climate science is ''being attacked in the media by many with no credentials in the field" and also that attempts to "intimidate climate scientists have added to the confusion in the public.”

“We don’t have time for false claims in this debate,” stated Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. “The science is in, climate change is real. The science is clear - man-made carbon pollution is making a difference to our planet and our climate.”

Now that the “science is in,” proponents of a proposed Carbon Tax hope that the government and legislators will take notice. Plans for a flagship emissions trade scheme to reduce carbon emissions were put on hold until 2013 after being rejected twice by the Australian Senate.

It can’t come soon enough. Australia is the twelfth highest per capita carbon emitters in the world- only one spot better than the United States.
