
Atienza To Call Envoys To Meet On Poaching

Alarmed by reports of rampant poaching in Philippine waters, Environment Secretary Lito Atienza will call to meeting officials of the embassies of China and other countries to put a stop to what he called the "worst form of piracy."
"Poachers are pirates of the worst kind. They know what they're doing, and they still do it," Atienza said, following reports that Chinese fishermen were caught recently gathering and killing endangered sea turtles in the waters off Sulu.
Atienza said he would ask the missions of China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan to send representatives to a briefing on the department's plan to take the lead in prosecuting the poachers...
