Atienza Declares War On Poachers

Environment Secretary Lito Atienza yesterday ordered an aggressive fight against poachers by vigorously pursuing their prosecution in a bid to stop them from returning to Philippine waters.
In an interview, Atienza instructed the legal arm of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) uA…aˆ?to throw the bookuA‚A? at these uA…aˆ?pirates of the worst kinduA‚A? for violating environmental laws and plundering the countryus marine resources.
Atienzaus order comes after the apprehension of Chinese vessel uA…aˆ?01087uA‚A? and the arrest of its 19 Chinese crewmembers last Sept. 2 near Taganak Island in Tawi-Tawi. The foreign fishermen were caught with 10,000 marine turtle eggs, and over 100 dried, butchered, and living adult marine turtles (pawikan); and two Thresher sharks...
