Asian Diver & AustralAsia Scuba Diver Magazines Consolidate

By Jason Heller, April 3, 2009 @ 01:00 AM (EST)

In a move that feels similar to the consolidation in the US market, Asian Geographic, the publisher of AustralAsia Scuba Diver magazine, has acquired rival magazine Asian Diver. Congratulations to our good friends John Thet  (publisher) and David Espinosa (editor), who have been producing such a great publication. Technically I am the North American representative for the magazine and we should look forward to increased collaboration between Scuba Diver, Asian Diver and DivePhotoGuide. Here is the official press release...

PRESS RELEASE

Asian Diver is now part of the group of magazines under Asian Geographic Magazines Pte Ltd that includes the other dive publication, Scuba Diver AustralAsia.

AustralAsia Scuba Diver & Asian Diver Magazine
Asian Diver is going to get a major facelift and shift in its editorial content. Aiming to boost the dive industry further, the magazine hopes to work with the dive professionals to promote continuing education, include a technical diving column and feature stories directed at the leaders in the industry. These include the dive agencies, equipment manufacturers, dive operators and shops, and especially the dive masters and instructors – responsible for promoting the sport and encouraging advancing certifications.

“By directing our focus primarily towards developing the industry from its roots, we are encouraging divers to become more knowledgeable about their sport, and inevitably further enhance awareness and safety,” says John Thet, publisher of Asian Geographic Magazines Pte Ltd. “We aim to be a important medium for the industry and hope that with this mutual support, we can grow the industry further.”

Asian Diver, continuing with issue 103, will be launched as a 200-page bumper issue together with Scuba Diver AustralAsia at the Malaysian International Dive Expo (MIDE) in Kuala Lumpur on July 3, 2009. Thereafter, the magazine will continue as a bi-monthly.

Currently Scuba Diver AustralAsia comes out on the newsstands every 45 days. With Asian Diver on board, the magazine will go back to being a bi-monthly in 2010, coming out every odd month, while Asian Diver will hit the newsstands every even month.

“If divers subscribe to both publications, they will receive one magazine a month. They will certainly be well occupied by wholly different content.” Mr Thet says with a smile.

Asian Geographic Magazines Pte Ltd will continue to honour subscriptions and advertising contracts with Asian Diver.
