By Jason Heller, April 21, 2009 @ 01:00 AM (EST)
Asia Dive Expo 2009
(ADEX) will be held this week in conjunction with Boat Asia 2009. Both events
will be held from 23 to 26 April, 2009 at the world-class Marina at
Keppel Bay.
Come by the DivePhotoGuide.com booth #814. We will be giving away free t-shirts at the end of each day at the show! Stay tuned for coverage of the show by Singapore DPG's Singapore representative (and an amazing photographer), Aaron Wong.
ADEX is always a fun show (See our 2008 ADEX coverage here!).
I'm dissapointed that I'm not going to be there personally this year,
but here's what's in store for those of you who will be there...
Catch this rare opportunity to meet renowned deep-sea explorer Emory KRISTOF
at the EcoVillage. He will share images and equipment used in the last
35 years of exploration – from deep sea vents in the Galapagos, the
Arctics, Loch Ness monster, Titanic to the most recent Inner Space
expedition to the Celebe Sea.What's more, the International Year of the Reef (IYOR) – Singapore Chapter, will hold their marine roundtable at the EcoVillage on 23 April. The EcoVillage will also feature 6 international NGOs including Project AWARE, Reef Check Malaysia and several others with an insightful presentation by WWF also on 23 April. Visitors interested in doing their part for conservation can check them out over the 4 days.
Visitors
can also go on an exploratory journey to learn more about the marine
conservation efforts of major eco-friendly corporations at the
Environmental Quest Corridor located at the EcoVillage. Learn more
about Keppel Corporation's coral reef nursery and find out all about
coral reef protection from a group of SMU conservation enthusiast.
Aspiring divers can grab the chance to gear up and take
a dive in our specially constructed pool under professional guidance of
divemasters. This is specially brought to you by RenScubaWorx.
Submission for 2009 competition is now closed and the
quality of images is by far of the highest standards since the
inception of this international digital photographic competition. 45
photo entries have been selected to proceed to the final round in the 3
categories – Seascapes, Macro and Animal Behaviour. Michael AW, of
Ocean Geographic Society, and the co-coordinator of the competition
noted that the standard of these entries are world class, comparable to
winners of Celebrate the Sea Imagery Competition and the World
Underwater Pictures Festival which is mostly competed by the world's
best underwater photographers.
The final round will be judged "live" by a panel of judges comprising Emory Kristof (National Geographic), John Thet (Asian Geographic) and Mathieu Meur (Ocean Geographic). Competitors and enthusiastic photographers should attend the session as the judges will debate and critique during the session.
At ADEX 09, there's something for everyone and its all done in the name of marine conservation! So, if you're in Singapore, you should be there!

Asia Dive Expo is Asia's largest and longest running
exhibition for the dive industry and related businesses. This year,
ADEX had a strong focus on the conservation of our oceans with the
theme “Save the sea, be a diver!” It launched the inaugural EcoVillage
which featured presentations from international NGOs like the World
Wide Fund for Nature and Reef Check Malaysia. ADEX will continue to
highlight the importance of marine conservation through its various
channels alongside its core purpose of bringing together the best in
Asia’s diving industry.
