Apple has announced its latest iPad Pro model alongside the new Magic Keyboard, which has backlit keys and a trackpad like, well, a computer. The tagline, of course: Your next computer is not a computer. In combination with the Magic Keyboard, the new iPad Pro provides the most laptop-like experience to date, and Apple are redoubling their efforts to present their top-of-the-range tablet as a laptop (or even desktop) replacement. They’re looking at you, photographers and filmmakers!
As you’d expect Apple to say, the use of the trackpad on the iPad Pro is “completely reimagined” with the introduction of a new cursor in iPadOS: “It’s contextual, so it transforms into the tool you need depending on the content you’re pointing to, like buttons, app icons, and text. It’s perfect for tasks where you need an extra level of precision, like building a spreadsheet or editing text.” You can also navigate with familiar trackpad Multi‑Touch gestures.
The new model features a more powerful A12Z Bionic chip, an eight-core GPU, an edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display with 120Hz refresh rate, faster Wi-Fi, gigabit-class LTE connectivity, and 12MP Wide and 10MP Ultra Wide cameras. There’s also a LiDAR Scanner to facilitate “a whole new class” of augmented reality experiences, according to Apple. Battery life is up to 10 hours.
Like the original iPad Pro, which the new model replaces, two sizes are available: the 11-inch model, which starts at $800; and the 12.9-inch model, from $1000. The storage options are 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.
