
Are there Antibiotics at the bottom of the Ocean?

Some researchers believe that in 20 years we will be in what they call a "pre-antibiotic era" due to the over-prescription of antibiotics. This would mean that simple infections could prove fatal as current antibiotics will be powerless against them. To combat this, researchers from Aberdeen University are searching for chemicals on the sea floor, particularly in the deep sea trenches. The project will cost 8 million pounds and will involve taking samples from the sea floor off the coast of Peru & Chile as well as New Zealand and the Antarctic.
