After the immensely successful inaugural edition last year, the Lembeh-Gulen Shootout will return in 2018, it has been announced. As in the 2016 Shootout, a team from Lembeh Resort in Indonesia will go head to head with their counterparts at Gulen Dive Resort in Norway to see who can produce the most mind-blowing critter imagery.
In the first event, there were three rounds of challenges—nudibranchs, invertebrates, and fish—and pro photographers Keri Wilk (Gulen) and Tobias Friedrich (Lembeh) were on hand at each resort to provide training to participants. Team Gulen will be looking to even up the score after Team Lembeh clinched the overall 2016 Shootout title by winning the invertebrates and fish rounds.
The event, the world’s first dual location underwater photography shootout, is a celebration of the amazing macro subjects that are found in both frigid and tropical conditions, and as such, celebrates two of the top locations on the planet to shoot these weird and wonderful subjects.
The Shootout Returns
It’s back and it is serious…
During the 2016 Lembeh-Gulen SHOOTOUT, two teams did battle to decide which would be champion. After an intense battle and by a narrow margin, Lembeh eventually proved victorious.
In 2018, round two commences. From 15 to 23 June, two teams of photographers will again gather at Gulen Dive Resort, Norway and Lembeh Resort, Indonesia to compete for individual and team glory. Guided and mentored by professional and acclaimed underwater photographers, the teams will strive to produce amazing imagery in a series of categories.
The quality of images that were produced by the teams in 2016 under contest conditions is a true tribute to their abilities. The 2018 SHOOTOUT will provide the same challenges and opportunities for all photographers to show their mettle. Join a team and help decide which will be the winner!
