During a recent excavation, a team of archeologists led by Philip de Jersey, uncovered a medieval grave with the remains of a dolphin inside. The team had thought they would find human remains and were quite surprised by the discovery. Apparently, it is the first time such a finding has been reported—they were the only remains the team found during the excavation.

The dolphin was found in a meticulously prepared grave, appropriate for a person, in the bedrock of the tiny islet of Chapelle Dom Hue. The islet lies in western Guernsey and is one of the islands in the English Channel that forms the Channel Islands. De Jersey was quite perplexed by the discovery and is eager to find an answer. The remains of the dolphin will be analyzed to determine the age and species.
