Amazon Ends $12 Per Year Unlimited Photo Storage
By Joseph Tepper, September 22, 2016 @ 08:49 PM (EST)

After a bad week for Amazon—including a massive hack—the company seems to be taking some of their pain out on photographers. Image-makers are taking their voices to the forums to share the news that their $12/year unlimited cloud photo storage through the Internet giant has been terminated.

It was once a heck of a deal, so we really feel bad for any photographers using the service. Apparently, Amazon is offering a few more free months of their regular cloud storage backup as a solution. Here is a clip of what the disappointed photographers are hearing from Amazon:

“As of September 19, 2016, your Amazon Unlimited Photos storage plan is no longer available. To replace this, we are giving you a free 3-month trial of the Unlimited Storage plan… You can cancel your trial at any time.”

Essentially, the company is forcing users who would otherwise only store RAW images as a backup to upgrade to a general file cloud solution—and it happens to cost five times as much.

Let us know if you received such an email. And if you’re looking for other storage options, make sure to check out DPG’s “A Photographer’s Guide to Digital Storage.”
