Adobe Updates After Effects with Content-Aware Fill

Ever returned from a dive after filming a truly epic encounter only to discover later—upon closer inspection—that your dome port had a tiny blemish and your precious footage has been ruined by the presence of an all-too-noticeable blob?

Well, with Adobe’s update to After Effects, all you have to do is select that pesky smudge in the footage that you want removed and let Content-Aware Fill do the rest. Yup, we’re talking about basically the same Content-Aware Fill function that you find in Photoshop doing its magic for video.

In addition to boosting After Effects, the spring update for the Creative Cloud audio and video apps covers Premiere Pro, Audition, and Character Animator. Premiere Pro’s new Freeform Project panel allows you to visually review, organize and arrange clips, and then quickly assemble a rough cut for editing. Rulers and Guides make text and graphics alignment simpler and more precise. And H.264 and HEVC encoding has been tweaked for smoother playback in both After Effects and Premiere Pro.

The updates, which are available now, are described in more detail on Adobe’s blog.
