Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, and the 3D technologies company X6D announced they are planning to produce a universal pair of 3D glasses.
This so called “Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative” will develop “Bluetooth radio frequency (RF) communication protocols as well as standardizing the various infrared (IR) systems that have been individually developed.” According to the companies, the standardized glasses will be available beginning in 2012 and will work with 3D televisions produced as early as 2011.
The decision to standardize 3D glasses is as much for the consumer as it is producers looking to format their films.

It's cool to see major companies like Samsung, Sony and Panasonic working together to create a standard. Seems like an excellent idea.
