Kona Honu Divers is hosting the second annual Kona Underwater Shootout from May 12–15. Over the course of three days, photographers will compete for the best underwater shot in 12 categories as well as the best overall photograph. Judging the competition are world-renowned photographers including Andy Brandy Casagrande IV, Jeff Milisen and Masa Ushioda. Prizes include a liveaboard dive trip to Palau on the Aggressor, lights, drybags, BCDs, cameras, strobes, and dive computers.
Twenty percent of all entry fees for the competition will be donated to the Malama Kai Foundation. The foundation maintains mooring balls on the Kona coast so that tour operators do not have to drop anchor on the coral reefs. Additionally, the foundation is responsible for a great deal of community education and outreach focused on marine conservation and preservation.
If you are interested in participating, plan to be in Kona by Friday, May 12, and bring your A game! For more information, visit the competition page. DPG is a media partner for the event, so we’ll be keeping you posted on all the action from the Big Island!
