2010 Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition is the most prestigious competition for wildlife photography. The competition has an Underwater World category, but plenty of underwater images also place in other categories as well.
We congratulate all the winners. This year we were pleased to see some fresh faces as well as some old friends placing in the competition.

Photojournalist of the Year
Brian Skerry was runner-up in the photojournalism category. Brian's work for National Geographic has had somewhat of a conservation skew the last few years. He is such a talented photographer and it's great to see such conservation minded photojounalism reaching millions of readers.
The Underwater World
Tony Wu nabbed the winning spot this year with an head-on image of four sperm whales in formation.

Runner-Up: Michael Roggo, with a freshwater image from the River Rhina in Switzerland.
Highly Commended:
Patrik Bartuska: sand tiger shark, Australia
Michael Aw: manta rays, Hanifaru Bay, Maldives
Marcelo Krause: yacare caiman, Brazil
One Earth Award
Jordi Chias Pujol was the winner of this category with an underwater image of a loggerhead turtle trapped in fishing net off of Barcelona.
Highly Commended:
Thomas Haider: finned sharks, Raja Ampat, Indonesia
Brian Skerry: shark finning, Baja California, Mexico (not underwater, but worth sharing)
Award for Endangered Wildlife
Another one of Tony Wu's sperm whale shots was Highly Commended in the endangered wildlife category as well. This one was a solo shot of a male named Scar, possibly the most popular sperm whale next to Moby Dick.
Animal Behavior (non mammals)
Pascal Kobeh was the winner of the animal behavior category with an image of spider crabs marching on top of one another in Australia.
Again, congrtulations to all of the winners, particularly our fellow underwater photographers. Do take a few minutes to browse through the non-underwater galleries as well. All of the winning images are fantastic.
